Every year, MIRAGE selects a new venue in the city to host the festival’s opening Night. This year’s choice is both stunning and symbolic, as the recently closed Frogner Kino will be brought back to life with a celebration of the art of cinema and a heartfelt tribute to jazz.
Prepare for a journey back in time to the golden age of jazz, where you'll encounter legends like Miles Davis, Nina Simone, Dizzy Gillespie, Louis Armstrong, and a few power-hungry politicians and world leaders. We will screen the European Film Award Nominee and one of this year’s top Oscar contenders; Soundtrack to a Coup d’État. This incredible film tells the story of how the CIA exploited African American jazz icons, using their music and influence as cultural ambassadors to expand American power in Africa—particularly in the resource-rich Belgian Congo, where Patrice Lumumba had been recently murdered under deeply suspicious circumstances.
It’s a film about the ruthless pursuit of power and the healing magic of jazz.
There will be concert with The Organ Club-Bugge Wesseltoft with Shannon Mowday on sax, Charles Mena on drums, and Sidiki Camara on percussion. The night will continue with a DJ, promising an unforgettable night and kickoff party for this years MIRAGE.
The film is in collaboration with HUMAN International Documentary Film Festival.
