EX NIHILO will be screened as a part of a Double Bill before the screening of BEING IN A PLACE - A PORTRAIT OF MARGARET TAIT.
Tubaas Øymo has created a personal and intimate perspective on one of our time's most exciting painters. A portrait that highlights the simplicity but still delves deep into the profound questions. "When making a film about someone, the film tells just as much about the one creating it," says Olav as a subtle jab at the filmmaker, and he follows up with, "you ought to know what you want to say." In its self-reflective form, EX NIHILO is just as much an introspective look. What does the artwork mean on a personal level, what does it spring out of, and how is it perceived by others, or, perhaps more importantly, how is it perceived by the one being portrayed? Olav has already expressed his dissatisfaction with this film and how he is portrayed. This, in itself, is an exciting starting point for a film that follows the logic of whatever arises; "ex nihilo" (or; "out of nothing") is simply an encounter between filmmaker and painter.
