Orsolya, a bailiff in Cluj, is ordered to evict a homeless man from the basement of a building. When the eviction ends in tragedy, she is overwhelmed by guilt and sets out across the city in search of comfort, explanation and perhaps absolution.
Her encounters with friends, family, a priest and strangers bring sympathy, advice and distraction, but no easy way out of the system in which she has played a part. Around her, Cluj presents itself as a prosperous European success story, while gentrification, inequality and nationalist tensions reveal who has been left behind.
Shot on an iPhone in just eleven days, the film turns its modest means into an urgent portrait of contemporary life, where sincere compassion coexists with convenience, hypocrisy and powerlessness. Kontinental ’25 won the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay at the 2025 Berlinale.
