Gold fever has taken hold of northern Niger. Moussa and his companions have left their former lives behind to stake everything on rumours of a new deposit at Ikazan. Camps rise and vanish as each whisper of a promising vein sends the miners deeper into the Sahara, where water is scarce, the heat is relentless and every descent underground carries real danger.
Roland Edzard’s camera moves between immense, sun-scorched horizons and suffocating shafts illuminated by headlamps. At its heart is a vivid portrait of friendship and collective endurance—and of the longing to escape one’s circumstances, even when fortune remains almost impossibly out of reach.
