What makes a film project connect beyond its country of origin? Which choices might strengthen or limit its journey through international funding, festivals, markets and distribution?
In this live project clinic, three selected filmmaking teams present projects currently in development. Martijn te Pas and Cecilie Bolvinkel of Doc Shelter respond in an open conversation with each team, examining the project’s central idea, artistic approach, presentation and position within the international landscape.
Together, they will identify what is already working, what needs further development and which opportunities or challenges may lie ahead. Rather than a conventional pitch or competition, the session offers a focused working conversation about how a project can become clearer, stronger and better prepared for its next stage.
By bringing this process onto the stage, MIRAGE gives the audience rare access to the questions, decisions and strategic thinking that shape a film long before it reaches the screen.
Martijn te Pas is a documentary consultant, festival strategist and curator specialising in project assessment, pitching and international festival strategy. From 2000 to 2019, he worked at IDFA as Head of Programme and Senior Programmer, while also advising the IDFA Bertha Fund and evaluating projects for the IDFA Forum. He has since worked with Nordisk Panorama, Sheffield DocFest, Eurimages to mention a few, and has coached filmmakers and projects across Europe.
Cecilie Bolvinkel is a consultant and producer with close to twenty years of experience in the international documentary industry. She specialises in funding, pitch and promotional materials, outreach and strategies for the international market. After twelve years at the European Documentary Network, she worked with organisations including IDFA, Nordisk Panorama, Rough Cut Service and m:brane. She is currently a producer at Auto Images and co-founder of the Copenhagen-based production company Purple Pictures.
