Beatrice Gibson and Ben Rivers have collaborated across several projects, including I Hope I’m Loud When I’m Dead, Two Sisters Who Are Not Sisters - (screening Saturday Night) and now Gibson’s first feature, At Night. Their collaboration brings together two strong cinematic voices and ways of seeing. Both connected through curiosity and improvisation, the physical format -16mm film, and the balance between documentary observation and fiction.

In At Night, screening at MIRAGE, Rivers’ textured 16mm cinematography moves through Paris after dark, shifting between intimate encounters, observation and dream.

This conversation digs into two distinct visual artists' thinking, and looks at how director and cinematographer develop a visual language together: how ideas are communicated, where responsibility shifts between them, and what becomes possible when both bring a strong artistic practice into the collaboration.

Ben Rivers is also presenting two programmes of his short films at MIRAGE, offering a wider look at his own filmmaking practice alongside his work as cinematographer.
