Directed by Signe Rosenlund-Hauglid, Take Care combines documentary material, poetry and carefully constructed miniature environments to examine collective trauma and the fragile feeling of safety following the 25 June attack in Oslo. This film comes out of a new triad, where the director, the poet and the production designer develop the story and the visual world together. Fossland has, alongside Rosenlund-Hauglid and poet and performer Hanna Asefaw been part of the project from the very beginning, from the forming of the idea.

With production design at its centre, this conversation examines the creative dialogue between the film’s director, production designer and poet, how production design can be a central part of the screenwriting process? How is a shared visual language developed across different disciplines? How do real locations and constructed environments shape one another? And how can production design move beyond setting and decoration to become an essential part of how a film thinks, remembers and communicates?

Julia Jayko Fossland is a production designer working across film, theatre, model-making and graphic design. She previously collaborated with Signe Rosenlund-Hauglid and Hanna Asefaw on A Home on Every Floor. For Take Care, she developed the production design and miniature environments and contributed to the screenplay.

Signe Rosenlund-Hauglid is a filmmaker, writer and journalist whose work moves between documentary, fiction and visual art. She holds an MFA in Film from HDK-Valand, and her films include Not That Kind of Guy, Extra and the award-winning A Home on Every Floor.
