Nils Petter Molvær - Live + Talk

At
Explore Per Maning’s images in dialogue with composer and trumpetist Nils Petter Molvær in a film, artist talk and a live music performance by Molvær following the screening of Sound of Air.

What happens when a musician and a visual artist begin to work without knowing where the encounter will lead? In Sound of Air, photographer and filmmaker Per Maning and trumpeter and composer Nils Petter Molvær meet through curiosity, improvisation and a willingness to let their artistic languages change one another.

Per Maning is a Norwegian photographer, video artist and film director known for his distinctive black-and-white images, often focusing on animals and the relationship between humans and nature. Emerging from advertising in the 1970s, he gained international recognition from the 1980s onward, representing Norway at the Sydney Biennale (1992) and Venice Biennale (1995). His work is held in major museum collections worldwide. Sound of Air is his latest work as a director.

Nils Petter Molvær is a Norwegian trumpeter, composer and producer from the island of Sula in Møre og Romsdal. Recognised as one of the most distinctive voices in European jazz, his sound is identifiable within a handful of notes. Since his breakthrough with Khmer (ECM, 1997), which announced a bold new direction for European jazz, Molvær has continued to quietly redraw the boundaries between jazz, ambient music and electronica, never content to repeat old ideas or rest on past achievements.
